How it all Started
First, a little bit of history… 100 years ago Prescott’s Parades were cowboys on horses, stagecoaches and wagons, then add in a few gold miners and their mules. About 40 years ago the City of Prescott completly discontinued all horse parades through downtown Prescott, the reason was that modern style parades were becoming more popular. Then one warm day in July about 10 years ago, two old cowboys were sitting at the bar having a few drinks at thier local watering hole on Whiskey Row. They were talking about how parades were now full of trucks, cars and smelled of diesel fuel. So one of the old cowboys said, we need to start our own parade. “What do ya say we go round-up some horses.“
Welcome
The Long Riders are now a Non-Profit corporation 501c3. We have branched off from the Precott Regulators and their Shady Ladies and the Shootout on Whiskey Row. We are still representative for the National Day of the Cowboy. We are also a membership driven organization and would love to have you become a Prescott Long Rider member. We are still updating the website with new forms for you to become a member and for the Long Ride and Parade. We will inform you as changes occur via our E-Newsletter or Facebook. Part of your donations will go to the VA Hospital to help Homeless Veterans. Please subscribe to our E-newsletter.
The trail ride will begin at the Granite Dells Trail Head parking lot and heads south on the Peavine Trail to downtown Prescott. The ride follows the Peavine Trail, through the Dells, alongside Watson Lake and follows Granite Creek. We pass thru tribal land, right behind the VA Hospital, ride through the VA Hospital and stage for the parade at Yavapai College. The Parade starts from there and will then continue on local streets (with a police escort) to the Court House. The parade will go down Whiskey Row and stop on Goodwin St.
